Final Thoughts

I know some of you have talked about this some, but would like to see you drop your top ten lists in the comments.  Also, if you’re up to it, your bottom five.

Would also like to get your thoughts on what you liked and didn’t like about this countdown.  I plan on doing future lists, though it may be a long time, if ever, if I do an exhaustive list regarding a particular TV show.  What worked for you?  Did you like that the site takes a break on the weekend or do you wish there was content daily?  Do you like just one entry per day, or would you prefer more?

My next long list is going to be the Top 100 games for the Nintendo Entertainment System.  However, there will be at least one other list before that.  Next week I’m thinking to run by top 5 original songs from video games.  If there’s any other lists you’d like to see, let me know that too.

Again, thanks for stopping by.

  1. DK’s Top Ten DS9 Episodes:

10: The Way of the Warrior
    9: In Purgatory’s Shadow/By Inferno’s Light
    8: The Siege of AR-558
7: Improbable Cause/The Die Is Cast
6: Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges
    5: Trials and Tribble-ations
4: Nor the Battle to the Strong
    3: Far Beyond the Stars
    2: The Visitor
    1: In the Pale Moonlight

That was awfully hard. I should probably be doing at least top 25. I also purposely left out the season 6 war arc and the series-ending arc since it didn’t seem to make sense to include 6- and 9-part groups with single and 2-part episodes, but on merit they probably both belong in there somewhere.

    Here’s the Bottom Five:

    5: Move Along Home
    4: Ferengi Love Songs
    3: Fascination
    2: Profit and Lace
1: Let He Who Is Without Sin…

    • I still stuck in season 5, so I can’t comment much on this, other than I think Trial and Tribbiliations to me is like Relics for this countdown. Great, but I don’t know if it would make my top 10 when it came down to it.

I also feel many episodes from season one would rank in my bottom ten.

    • I agree … because of how serialized it is, DS9 is very difficult to rank. But here are my lists, anyways:

      TOP TEN
      10) 2.23 – Crossover: A

It’s interesting to note that the #1 episode here at DBT (Chain of Command) doesn’t even crack my Top 60 episodes.

    • I noticed your grade of Chain of Command earlier, and decided your entire site wasn’t legitimate :) at least we agree on the worst and second worst episodes!

I’m not sure how you can separate the second half of Best of Both Worlds Out. Their the same exact story, same arc, with no time gap between them. It’d be like ranking the first half of The Inner Light #2 and the second half #1. Doesn’t make much sense to me.

      • Well, the way I see it, and as evidenced by your own comments in your review, BoBW1 & BoBW2 are, in fact, two very distinct productions. Sure, Part 2 picks up immediately where Part 1 left off … but there were months separating the writing, shooting, production of each installment. As you say, Piller didn’t even consider the second half of the story when he wrote the first. More importantly, they were conceived as two separate presentations (one to end a season, the other to premiere).

It’s just the way I view television. It’s how I chose to distinguish many of the highly serialized episodes of Lost, BSG, even DS9. Ditto for the TNG in-season two-parters such as “Birthright” and the aforementioned “Chain of Command”. They are all designed to be shown as individual presentations, so I simply decided to review them individually.

I don’t there’s any one way to view any of this, though. In fact, if you look at my TNG reviews, I treat both “Encounter at Farpoint” and “All Good Things” as a single installment (presentation).

Hope that clarifies my position a bit. ;-)

        • well, those last two episodes were feature length and were only cut into two parts for syndication.

I think the main reason I can’t split them is that I would never sit down to watch just the first part of BoBW. For me, it’s an all or nothing deal. I can see an argument for only watching the second half of Redemption, but most two-part episodes are presented as such because the TV time slot only allows them an hour, or it’s a gimmick to reel people back in.

I can’t imagine ranking DS9 episodes. So many are dependent on ones before it that it’s like comparing Stephen Hawking to Einstein or Copernicus.

  6. Oh, dude, soundtrack music — bring it on!

I’ve already mentioned before (several times!) that I’d rank Schisms high and Justice low, but in general your list rocks. Inner Light and Best of Both Worlds pt 1 are my #1 and #2.
